Walk for PKD

A couple of weekends ago we had the opportunity to help out with a walk to raise money for research of PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease)

Riley helped us fill the bags of popcorn.

Sam ate what we dropped on the ground!

Anyone who knows Sam, knows how much he loves doggies. He was so amazed by these big guys.

Riley got her face painted. (a purple flower, her favorite color)
And Sam wouldn't sit still so he had a nice orange smudge!

This is me and of my favorite teachers ever: Dr. Stephens!

It was an honor and so much fun to attend and help in a small way at the Walk for PKD. I have to admit, I only volunteered because of how much I love and respect Dr. Stephens. This is something very dear to her heart, so it is to mine. PKD is actually one of the most common, life threatening genetic diseases, affecting more people than Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and sickle cell anemia- combined, yet few have ever heard of it. She is very familiar with the disease seeing that it runs thick through her husbands family. Dialysis and transplantation are the only treatment options for someone who has PKD because there is no cure.
I found so much of this information slightly overwhelming. The walk raised a good chunk of money and I consider the day to be quite the success. The kids really enjoyed the Ckik-fil-A cow and the other activities. (especially the popcorn) You can even check out a video from the day. Watch closely: Riley and Sam (and my legs) are at the end!

So glad that you give back to causes that are close to your heart! I love that you get the kiddos involved as well!

Thanks mom. This professor is the one that I talk about all the time. I love her! I am also glad that the kids have so many opportunities to get involved with helping others. It is important to me...
